"There is not a particle of life which does not bear poetry within it." (Gustave Flaubert)
The intent of my photography is to bear witness to the world and the beauty infused in the mundane, the common, the ordinary, as well as the magnificent. It is an attempt to capture the world and experience as seen with a loving eye. And with a striving towards honoring the present moment, my work seeks to capture that which is ultimately impermanent.
This work is at times achieved through intentional planning. Often, though, it is a creative effort of improvisatory dialogue with the world, whereby the image, the light, the color, and I find one another.
Flaubert offers, and I concur, that all parts of existence are imbued with poetry. And as poetry strives towards describing the world and our human experience through the ineffable and the beautiful, so too do I aspire with my photography. Indeed, any instance of experience can be seen as ineffable and ultimately beautiful when captured in light and color, in tone and composition.
Photography is a momentary capture of transience. We may not be here again, but hopefully we can carry the poetry with us into the next moment, anew. I strive to highlight the tiniest slivers of life, calling forth beauty from the everyday wonders of our lives.
